For many people, their true selves are hidden. Some hidden in hypocrisy, shame and secret sins. Other are lives better lives than many know because they quietly live the will of God without fanfare or recognition. We examine these two types of unknown lives in light of the gospel.
In the 7th chapter of Matthew, Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount teaches that we are not to judge or have a harsh spirit to others, culminating in the golden rule telling us to treat others with the same benefit of the doubt and concern that we would normally reserve for ourselves. We also see that our heavenly Father has mercifully demonstrated this same attitude towards us.
The old covenant was famously written on stones. The great promise of the new is that it is written on our hearts and minds. In this study, we look at the need, benefit and blessings of truly taking the teachings of God to heart.
The high standard of morality lived by Christ, and that we, His followers, seek to emulate is universally known. In this lesson we see how Christ empowers us to live the right way. We also examine the strengths and limits of a moral life without Christ.
